Shark Cartilage Vitamins: Good Cure for Cancer

Shark Cartilage

Shark cartilage (tough elastic tissue that provides support, much as bone does) used for medicine comes primarily from sharks caught in the Pacific Ocean.

Shark cartilage is most famously used for cancer treatment, including a type of cancer called Kaposi’s sarcoma, that is more common in people with HIV infection. Shark cartilage is also used for arthritis, psoriasis, wound healing, damage to the retina of the eye due to diabetes, and inflammation of the intestine (enteritis).

Shark Cartilage is a natural source of Chondroitin Sulfate, which is a key structural component in human cartilage. Chondroitin also plays an important role in the maintenance of joint cartilage

List of Uses for Shark Cartilage

In alternative medicine, shark cartilage is said to help with the following health problems:

Health Benefits of Shark Cartilage

Preliminary studies suggest that shark cartilage may have some health benefits. Here's a glimpse at some key study findings on shark cartilage:

1) Cancer
Shark cartilage is said to be a good cure for cancer. Proponents suggest that shark cartilage can fight cancer by slowing or stopping the growth of blood vessels that tumors need to thrive.
So far, most of the studies showing anti-cancer benefits from shark cartilage have been conducted on animals and human cells. Several of these studies indicate that shark cartilage may act as an anti-angiogenic agent (a type of substance that stalls the growth of new blood vessels) and, in turn, inhibit the development of cancerous tumors.

Despite these preliminary findings, few clinical trials have demonstrated that shark cartilage may provide anti-cancer benefits. In a 2005 study published in the journal Cancer, for instance, researchers found that shark cartilage failed to improve survival in people with advanced cancer. For the study, 83 advanced-cancer patients were given either shark cartilage or a placebo in combination with standard care. Researchers found no difference in survival between the two groups. Shark cartilage also appeared to have no effect on quality of life.

2) Psoriasis

There's some evidence that shark cartilage shows promise in the treatment of psoriasis, however. For example, a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2002 found that AE-941 (a product containing shark cartilage extract) may help control psoriasis symptoms. The study involved 49 patients with psoriasis, each of whom received varying doses of AE-941 for 12 weeks. Results revealed that those given higher doses of AE-941 experienced significant improvements in several symptoms of psoriasis, including itching.

How Salmon Fish Oil Benefits Your Health

Salmon: Benefits of Fish Oil

Salmon Oil Benefits are a property of two important omega-3 fatty acids:

  1. EPA: Eicosapentaenoic Acid
  2. Buy Omega-3 Salmon Oil

  3. DHA: Docosahexaenoic Acid

Our bodies are not able to produce omega-3 fatty acids on their own, so they are known as essential fatty acids that we must consume through the foods we eat or the supplements we take.

Salmon oil offers a safe alternative to some other fish oils, such as cod liver oil, because it doesn't contain vitamin A. Cod liver oil is very high in vitamin A, and each tablespoon contains more than the maximum safe daily vitamin A intake. As a result, relying on cod liver oil as a daily source of omega-3 fatty acids can cause accidental vitamin A toxicity -- a condition that negatively affects your skin, causes joint pain and can even put you into a coma. Because salmon oil does not contain vitamin A, you can take it daily without risking a vitamin A overdose.

List of Salmon Fish Oil Benefits

These unique omega 3 fatty acids provide a number of impressive health benefits.

    1. Lowered Cholesterol levels of 'bad' LDL cholesterol in the blood, while at the same time improving the levels of 'good' HDL cholesterol.

    2. Improved Heart Health: One study at the Mayo Clinic reported that if a person has a heart attack and also has high levels of omega-3 fatty acids in his body, the risk of dying immediately after the attack is dramatically reduced!

    3. Decreases Platelet Stickiness: this is important in the case of stroke and stroke risk, but also, there is a big caution here for anyone already taking anti-coagulant therapy or who has a genetic anti-clotting blood disorder.

    4. Blood pressure reductions

    5. Improved Joint Pain in both cases of Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis

    6. Brain Function is improved which has great implications in cases of depression, age related decline as well as Alzheimer's.

    7. Aids in Weight Loss as we now know that omega 3 fatty acids are less likely to be stored as fat than unhealthy fats.

    8. As a powerful anti-inflammatory, it is helpful for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as asthma and psoriasis.

    9. Salmon oil is also known to prevent prostate cancer.

    10. There have been positive reports in reducing the risk of breast cancer.

    11. Another of salmon oil benefits is the reduction of pain caused by menstrual cramps.

Il Dolce Far Niente - The Sweetness of Doing Nothing

As I watched the TV Show, The Big C, there was a part where the main character, Cathy (Laura Linney), visits Dr. Sherman, her Cancer doctor. Dr. Sherman tells her that he loves Italy and its idea of "Il Dolce Far Niente" which means "The Sweetness of Doing Nothing".

This struck me because the show is about Cancer, implying that life is short, and here we see this being brought up by Cathy's Cancer doctor implying it's fun to do nothing.

It's very a interesting phrase since nowadays with the fast-paced world that technology has brought upon the us, everyone seems to be rushing and trying to beat the clock and jamming as much information as they can. The current world has made us feel guilty when we do nothing, making us feel like we're stupid, wasting time and are slackers. We forget about this subtle art.

Sometimes it's just really fun and refreshing to cut-back and do nothing!

Restaurant: It's about time people you go to About Thyme!

After reading Monkey See, Monkey Feast's blog on About Thyme, mouth drooling with the thought of foie gras poutine, I decided to go on the road trip to visit this hidden gem.

Situated at Lincoln, Ontario (3457 King Street, Vineland, Ontario L0R 2C0, Canada), 30 minutes from Niagara-On-The-Lake, this was a perfect in-between stop before doing wine tasting tours at Niagara-On-The-Lake.

For all duck lovers and adventurous eaters, the Bistro Poutine is heavenly! A big batch of yukon gold fries smothered with foie gras sauce, duck confit and aged cheddar. They don't scrimp on the toppings as you can get the sauce, cheese and duck with each fry you get. Also, what I really love as well is that despite all these toppings, the fries are still crispy as ever and didn't get soggy! I would definitely go back just to have another shot at this poutine! Price is $12. (Sidebar: This is good for sharing between 3-5 people as appetizers. There was actually a couple, who ate for lunch, that just ordered spinach salad and bistro poutine. They couldn't even finish the poutine!)

We also tried their Mussels of the Day (comes with Fries). That day came with cream of leek and smoked bacon. Small portion (~30 mussels) is $8 for small.
